ANCIENT
DISCOVERIES
EADERS may remember, we first introduced Simon Beadles9
R wildflower garden in Staples Terrace back in 2025.
An interesting feature of the garden is a 8sheep9s water trough9
which is carved from solid stone and had previously belonged to a
sheepskin manufacturer in Glastonbury.
Earlier this year, Simon welcomed a visitor to his wildflower
garden, who suggested the sheep9s trough could be an ancient
child9s sarcophagus.
The earliest records of purpose-built stone coffins date back to the
first and second centuries, during the Roman occupation.
If there is anyone out there able to shed further light on the
possible origins of the trough, Simon is asking them to contact him
on 07870 603345.
