THE BELL THAT HAS WITNESSED
LYME’S HISTORY
OOK closely at the old bell
hanging in the stairwell of
L Lyme Regis Museum and you
might notice that it is rather
rough around the edges.
Weighing around 130kg, this
unassuming bronze bell has, however,
played a remarkable role in the
history of the town for almost 400
years.
Cast in 1647, the bell bears the
inscription:
