LIFEBOAT WEEK A
ROARING SUCCESS
A
REMARKABLE £33,000 plus was raised
during this year9s Lifeboat Week in
support of the RNLI.
The Lyme Regis RNLI has paid tribute to the
dedicated volunteers who made this year9s event
happen, a year also celebrating 200 years of the
RNLI in the town.
The organisation has thanked local businesses and
organisations for helping to make Lifeboat Week
happen.
A staggering 90 events took place across the week,
from lifeboat displays, a duck race, and the
swimming challenge, to a fun run, crab fishing and a
Spitfire display, with plenty more in between.
Throughout the week, the lifeboat was on display on
the slipway, alongside the water or wine raffle, the
Welly Dog competition, safety advice from the
Water Safety Team, and games in the boathouse.
The week was officially opened by the RNLI9s CEO
Peter Sparkes, following a welcome display by the
Lyme Regis lifeboat 8Spirit of Loch Fyne9,
accompanied by all-weather lifeboats from Exmouth
and Weymouth.
The opening evening saw a Lifeboat Week favourite,
the Bathtub Race, won this year by a crew from
Lyme Regis Sea School, followed by an 80s disco in
the Powerboat Club.
Following the unfortunate cancellation of the Red
Arrows due to operational reasons, the Red Barrows
stepped in with their display of precision
8barrowbatics9.
The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service supported the
event with a chip pan fire demonstration and the
rescuing of casualties from a smoke-filled lifeboat
station.
All this on the same day as kite-making and a
performance from Cynewulf Morris.
The popular produce stall saw record receipts
thanks to generous donations from supporters and
local businesses, there was a search and rescue
demonstration by Lyme9s lifeguards and
lifeboat, and a hotly contested Damsels in Distress
Race won by Abi Greenslade and Phoebe Clark.
RNLI mascot Stormy Stan tried his best as a
goalkeeper, and some impressive kites were made
on Marine Parade.
